Maryland’s Public Information Act (“PIA”), Title 4 of the General Provisions Article (“GP”), grants the public a broad right of access to records that are in the possession of State and local government agencies. It has been a part of the Annotated Code of Maryland since its enactment as Chapter 698 of the Laws of Maryland 1970 and is similar in purpose to the federal Freedom of Information Act (“FOIA”), 5 U.S.C. § 552, and the public information and open records acts of other states. The Commission has adopted regulations setting out procedures under the PIA for filing and processing requests to the Commission for the inspection and copying of public records of the Commission. COMAR 14.09.16.01 – 14.09.16.16.

New Claims
Monthly Claims Data Published Pursuant to the Maryland Public Information Act, Annotated Code of Maryland, General Provisions (“GP”) Article §§ 4-101 – 4-601.

In compliance with its statutory obligations to disclose non-exempt public records, WCC posts the following monthly claims data for non-public injured workers in an electronic, searchable spreadsheet (.xls). The spreadsheet lists the Claimant Name, Claimant Address, County, Attorney Name, Employer Name, Insurer Name, and Insurer Address for all non-public workers who filed claims for the reporting month. No medical or personal financial data is disclosed. You may refer any concerns about this process to the Public Information Act Compliance Board pursuant to GP § 4-1A-01 et seq., or the Public Access Ombudsman pursuant to GP § 4-1B-01 et seq.

Budget Advisory Committee (Closed) Meeting Schedule & Agenda
Pursuant to Md. Code, Lab. & Empl. art § 9-317 and § 9-318, the Advisory Committee on Budget of State Workers' Compensation Commission will meet to review the Commission's tentative operating budget and make recommendations to the Commission as to any changes in any budget area of the Commission. Because the information discussed is and will be privileged from disclosure under the judicially recognized and constitutionally based doctrine of executive privilege, 66 OAG 98 (1981)(agency budget recommendations are subject to executive privilege), the Committee’s discussions and deliberations will not be open to the public. A copy of the Committee’s final annual report will be available to the Governor and the General Assembly by December 1.
